Finding a Wedding Reception Site

Submitted By: Cynthia Lewnes

I have discovered that finding a reception site is much more difficult than it seems. I have yet to choose one, but have fallen in love with many. I have also found many that I did not like at all. I have developed a few rules about my search and decided I would share them.

1. E-mail any Site that you are Even Remotely Interested in. I have found that some sites that I only e-mailed because someone else told me to, or because they were in the areas I was looking in, have made it into my top 5. Some that I just "knew" I would love ended up being lower than some that I just decided to go visit just because.

2. If the Site Manager/Representative Doesn't E-mail/Call you Back, it's not Worth Trying Again. My philosophy is that if people are not willing to give you their attention when they haven't even convinced you to go with their site, they really won't be inclined to give you attention when they already have your money.

3. Book Appointments that are all Within One Area on the Same Day. This is a rule I just came up with. After going back to literally the same one mile radius on three different days, I realized that I was wasting my time by not scheduling them all on the same day.

4. Bring a Notebook to All Appointments. My fiance and I have found this to be a vital part of our elimination process. We take notes on everything that the representatives have told us. We also have a dedicated section of the notebook for likes and dislike by venue. We start a new page as soon as we get in the car from an appointment and take 5 minutes writing down likes/dislikes of each venue.

5.  Look for What's Around the Venue. If you have a ton of out of town guests, there should be a hotel nearby. If you are set on being married in a church, make sure that there is a church that suits your needs locally. Unless you're planning on renting a bus for your guests, they'll greatly appreciate it if you're being considerate of them.

Those are just a few things off the top of my head, if I think of anything else I will definitely post it. Happy Hunting!
